One such blockchain that has faced all-odds and survived yet again is Ethereum Classic.
It is almost like the case of Phoenix rising from the ashes similarly Ethereum Classic has endured the test of the time.
For those of you who don't know about Ethereum Classic (aka ETC) here is a brief premier for your to read.
Ethereum Classic is a hard fork of Ethereum. The majority of the Ethereum community at the time of DAO hack supported the hard fork of Ethereum chain. But a minority of users were against the hard fork, so they continued on the old blockchain and called themselves "Ethereum Classic". Ethereum Classic's blockchain is the same in every way with Ethereum's until Block 192000, where the hard fork was applied.
But now that it has survived the test of the time it becomes natural to keep it safe in secure wallets that have developed over the period of time.
Also, ETC was like the free money that was airdropped due to the hard fork so most of the investors are still holding ETC and waiting for its "To The Moon" moment
Best Hardware and online wallets for Ethereum Classic
Ledger Nano S, the best hardware wallet one can ask for right now.
It is developed and maintained by a French start-up that's why you have a sleek design of the device. Some of basic USPs that you would want in a secure wallet are present in Ledger Nano S such as:
OLED Screen with physical buttons
Backup seed Keys & PIN code feature
Offline private keys
HD Wallet
Passphrase feature
Usable in infected computer
Multi-coin support [+22 Currencies Including ETC]
Ledger was one of the first wallets to support Ethereum Classic fork as soon as it was out and to date, you can store your ETC on Ledger Nano S safely.
Harsh has made few videos guide about Ledger Nano S that you must check out. This will help you to learn everything about Ledger Nano S.
Trezor, the very first hardware wallet in the crypto space has earned quite a heavy fan following by now. And why not also when you are the pioneer of the market plus a multi-currency wallet with all the necessary features one can ask for. Some of those features are:
Coinomi is another reliable wallet based out of UK and has earned quite a bit of respect in this space especially for quickly supporting forked coins. (ignore some minor hype stories around this wallet)
It is a popular multi-currency HD wallet that supports a plethora of cryptos, including Ethereum Classic and Ethereum Classic tokens.
On Coinomi, private keys never leave the device, and features like seed keys enable you to restore your funds whenever required.
Another feature that I believe makes this wallet unique is its inbuilt coin exchange integration with both Changelly and ShapeShift, which I haven't seen in any other wallet.
It is only available for Android as of now, but iOS support is also coming soon.
Jaxx is another popular multi-currency wallet that supports many cryptocurrencies including Ethereum Classic.
It is created, developed and maintained by a Canda-based startup Decentral.
It has an amazing development community which looks after innovation and maintenance of the product.
Being a non-hosted HD wallet, it means on Jaxx your private keys are in your control and that's why it is your responsibility of taking care of its 12-word seed phrase.
ClassicEtherWallet is a web wallet but is different from other traditional web wallets.
Why? Because unlike other web wallets, here you control Ethereum Classic's private key on your machine.
It claims to be an offline wallet as it uses a machine's browser to generate necessary data, and nothing is ever stored on MyEtherWallet servers.
It is an open-source wallet, with no third-party servers, where you can write and access smart contracts. It has an inbuilt BTC to ETC (and vice-versa) swap facility. You can also connect your Trezor or Ledger Nano S to access your funds in ClassicEther's browser environment.
Ethereum Classic is actually the minority blockchain and it has been only 2 years since its launch that's why the wallet ecosystem has very limited options right now.
But I am very sure as the technology matures, new Ethereum Classic/ETC wallets and will be available for each type of user.
Be on the lookout for exciting Ethereum Classic news!
I hope this list of Ethereum Classic wallets will help you make the right decision when choosing where to store your Ether Classic tokens. I would love to hear your experience if you have used any of the above wallets or any other Ethereum Classic wallet. Do let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
